A website for the Bickleigh community

Over the past nine months or so, I've been working with David Meredith and lots of others to (slowly but surely!) create a new website for our village and the surrounding community. The aim is to keep people informed about whats going on, let people know about local groups, associations and so on, and to promote upcoming events. It is also a space for local individuals and businesses to advertise their services.

We've been adding bits of bobs to the site as we go, and we think there is enough there now for us to 'go live', but there's lots more we could add. Which is where you could come in.

If you'd like to post some news, add a photo, promote an upcoming event, add a group or club that is missing, or have any other ideas for ways that we can improve the site, we'd love to hear from you.

To get started, register for an account on the site which will allow you to add content (once it has been approved) and get in touch about what you'd like to add. You can get in touch by filling in our contact form, giving me a call on 07477 665458, or popping by to number 2 Bell Meadow in person.

The site is volunteer run, and doesn't have too many running costs. Fingers crossed, we will be able to secure a small amount of money via the a fund for Parish council websites to get started. Longer term, we plan on keeping it sustainable through sponsorship and advertising from local businesses. To that end, we have place banner adverts at the bottom of the site, which are priced at a very reasonable £5 per year for individuals and £20 for larger businesses. Just next to the adverts you'll see a link to a directory of local services that is free of charge for everyone. Get in touch if you would like to advertise or listed in the directory.

In case you're wondering how this relates to the Bugle, we are hoping that they both have a long and happy life together. We've been uploading copies of the Bugle to the website for the past couple of months and fingers crossed, the website will serve as a good source of content for the Bugle and visa versa.

We'd love to see a few more pictures (historical and current) on the site so if you have any please send them in. An for those of you that are into social media, we're hoping to link the site up with a Facebook page and an Instagram account shortly.

Finally, many thanks to everyone that has added content already, and especially to David Meredith who has served as an excellent cat herder during its development. We're really excited to see how people use the site over the coming months and years.
